Day 27, video post

Day twenty seven, weigh in two

Note: Back in September, I weighed in at 365 pounds. I decided to start getting it under control, and use my other blog as a means of recording my progress.

Well, I'm back to where I was before the February backslide happened, now thirty two pounds from the goal.

The exercise is paying off. I'm seeing a little bit of toning around my body, and I've noticed that my stair endurance is building. I'm no longer as winded after trips up the stairs.

Later this week, I see myself signing up for the gym. Since classes start at UCF tomorrow, and I'll have to go out there both for my GRA hours and my Monday night class, it'll be easy to stop by before or after my workout. When I'm not at UCF, there's another Planet Fitness about five miles west of the apartment that I can visit. At 282, I'm definitely safe for cardio activity, and I won't kill my knees as much as I would have at 365 pounds.

365 pounds. I just realized that I've lost 83 pounds since starting this in September. Damn, there's a slight possibility that I could hit 100 on the next weigh in--not realistic, but still a possibility. I remember how far away 250 felt back in September. Even the 280's felt so distant. But I'm here now, and the target's not that far off. I really could walk out of this apartment and leave the whole "big guy" identity behind me.

Today is another day for cleaning. I'm polishing and finishing the living room. Then, I'm going to polish and finish the dining room and kitchen. If I have time left today, I'm going to start my bedroom, which is hiding my old gym bag and gear.

It's weird. Literally to this day, five years ago, I was just embarking on another push to reduce my weight, so I guess I've got a good stick against which I can measure my performance here. Hopefully this time next year, I can write about being in maintenance mode for once.

Baggage that I'd actually want...

I need a cleaning break here. The living room's shaping up. Getting closer, but not quite there yet.

As I look towards the selling phase of this liquidation, I've been thinking about transmutation--taking one thing and transforming it into another. As I take the artifacts of my extended adolescence and start to sell them off, I've been thinking about using some of that money to update my look a bit. I know that I have self esteem issues at times, and that I tend to slob out when my self esteem is low--it's a safe place, to hide out in a place where people's expectations of me are low. All of my school bags are worn and tattered. I've been thinking about some new baggage to go with the new look--again, something stylish and a bit elegant (at least as elegant as one can get in the grad school department), so I did some looking on Overstock.com and found one bag for professor mode (Montana Brown) and a bag for grad student mode (Brown).

Any thoughts?

Picking up in midstream...

I've been keeping a blog elsewhere since 2001. To reciprocate with a friend, I've opened up a blog here as well, essentially a mirror feed of my blog. I figured I'd just start with the current day's entries, and then copy them over as I make them...

Ten and a half hours of sleep last night. Pure, complete bliss.

I've been experimenting with my sleeping arrangement. I'm a pillow hoarder. When I need to replace my sleeping pillow, the old pillow gets relegated to a mini body pillow. So I have this huge pile of pillows that I sleep next to at night--almost propping me up. As I think about cutting the crap from my life, and trying to tighten my dwelling up a bit, I decided to go back to a more traditional pillow configuration. It's been...interesting. I woke up in the middle of the night to notice that I pulled the other pillow over, next to me. I think I just need an adjustment period on it, and I'll be used to it again.

Last night, I took another load of trash out to the dumpster. I think that I'm almost at the end of the trashing phase of the downsizing. I can't see a lot of trash that's got to go. That's not to say that I don't have more to get rid of, but the mass bulldozing that I needed to do seems finished. I suspect that I'll have one more trash run to make before this is all over. The new focus will be on the donating and selling, as I narrow down to what I'm taking in to this next phase of my life.

*cry* When I was at Wal Mart the other day, I noticed that they discontinued my china pattern. In a way, I think this is a good thing. I have a four person dining table, so I didn't really need a set for eight. Hell, I can't think of a time that seven people ever wanted to come to my place for a meal. If anything, I think that I might get a second set of dishes in another pattern, just to shake things up a bit. I'd still like a square pattern, just because I think there's a cool, chic quality to squared plates and dishes. I saw a pattern I liked there--black lacquered on the outside and a red lacquer on the serving area of the plate, bowl, and cup. Later, later. I'm trying to get rid of stuff right now--not pull more in.

On the diet front, I'm going strong. It's day twenty six, and I'm really impressed with how I've been holding up here. I've not had any of those "get me ______, or I kill someone" cravings so far, though I've had temptations--especially sushi. Yes, I know that it's not really a "bad" food, but I want to have something to use as a reward--something to push me towards the end product. In this case, my end products are a successful summer semester, pulling this move off with no stress or drama, and getting my weight and size to a point where I can wear my old wardrobe. So if I can maintain this discipline and focus, I'm just under three months from sushi.

I pulled a little food experiment off this week. I've been drinking Crystal Light (well, Wal Mart's store brand) instead of soda. I have this fridge-shaped (essentially, a long, rectangular) shelf unit that holds two tubs of mix. Until this week, I've just been mixing up the same flavor, but Thursday, I decided to mix flavors. Yesterday, I made up cranberry-lemonade. I know it doesn't sound like much, but when you're making salads and meals from frozen boxes, there's not a lot of longitude for creativity.

Today, I'm going to pick a room and knock it out. I think that today's room will be the living room. Tonight's room will be the office--or at least a start on it.

Tomorrow is weigh in day. I see good things coming there. :)
