I ended up going out to the Morningtide prerelease Friday, and walked out 1-3, and the win was due to a bye. I've not drafted in ages, and I suspect that trying to focus on new cards at 3am didn't help either.
The rest of the weekend was spent in WoW. I didn't really feel like going out, and I wasn't exactly overwhelmed by social invitations. Eat and game, eat and game, eat and game, sleep. Eat and game, eat and game, eat and game, sleep. Eat and game, eat and game, eat and game, sleep.
I'm majorly burned out in school right now. It's been next to impossible to motivate to do anything. For those new to my life, I did two masters degrees back to back--with literally two weeks off between the first and second. Then, I took a year off (though one semester was in school as a nondegree student), and went back for my doctorate. About the only thing keeping me going is the fact that I have one class after this semester, and I'm then done with the classroom portion. I just have to take my exams and do my dissertation. Still, it's getting harder and harder.
I've been a graduate student since 2001. Since 2001, I've been living in that hand to mouth mode. I had a small reprieve while I was a public high school teacher, but most of the money I made there went into paying off finances from the previous graduate schooling. It's been ages since I could just sit back and relax a bit, and I'm really not sure how much more I can keep pushing on this before something breaks here.

Oh, and is it just me, or does the new Rambo movie look like little more than a superficially patriotic slasher film? I mean, we had the unrated trailer last summer, and now, the music bed is Drowning Pool's "Bodies," which seemed to grace the past few Friday the 13th sequels.
What's next, Stallone in a fright mask or goalie mask?

Spring Semester, week 2...
The second week of the semester is over, and an extended weekend is approaching. Thoughts so far (class names abstracted to save my fat ass if I'm ever found out)...
Stats: I have Bernice Clifton (from Designing Women) teaching. Looks like her. Sounds like her. Almost as scatterbrained in lectures--in that crazy professorial good way. I just keep waiting for her to break out in spontaneous chorus of "black man, black man! Where do you come from?"
Philosophy of education: God, I forgot how much I loved philosophy classes. Sitting around, discussing ideas. The professor is farther left than I am. I'm not sure if I should be pleased or frightened by this...
Game design: We're going to virtual-design a game (i.e. narratives and descriptives of a product) by the end of the class. The homework this weekend is to play video games and analyze. Finally, my hours in World of Warcraft pay off! :)
Theory of modeling and simulation: Theory, my fat ass. We spent three hours tonight getting a crash course in Multigen Paradigm. It's looking like all application here--get in and model. This one may be the "what was I thinking?" class for the term...
In other news, I'm still thinking about the body/weight issues. I really wish I could talk to someone who could be open and objective. The problem is that friends give a shit about me, and that giving of a shit (one way or the other) often interferes with things...

Day twenty seven, weigh in two
Note: Back in September, I weighed in at 365 pounds. I decided to start getting it under control, and use my other blog as a means of recording my progress.
Well, I'm back to where I was before the February backslide happened, now thirty two pounds from the goal.
The exercise is paying off. I'm seeing a little bit of toning around my body, and I've noticed that my stair endurance is building. I'm no longer as winded after trips up the stairs.
Later this week, I see myself signing up for the gym. Since classes start at UCF tomorrow, and I'll have to go out there both for my GRA hours and my Monday night class, it'll be easy to stop by before or after my workout. When I'm not at UCF, there's another Planet Fitness about five miles west of the apartment that I can visit. At 282, I'm definitely safe for cardio activity, and I won't kill my knees as much as I would have at 365 pounds.
365 pounds. I just realized that I've lost 83 pounds since starting this in September. Damn, there's a slight possibility that I could hit 100 on the next weigh in--not realistic, but still a possibility. I remember how far away 250 felt back in September. Even the 280's felt so distant. But I'm here now, and the target's not that far off. I really could walk out of this apartment and leave the whole "big guy" identity behind me.
Today is another day for cleaning. I'm polishing and finishing the living room. Then, I'm going to polish and finish the dining room and kitchen. If I have time left today, I'm going to start my bedroom, which is hiding my old gym bag and gear.
It's weird. Literally to this day, five years ago, I was just embarking on another push to reduce my weight, so I guess I've got a good stick against which I can measure my performance here. Hopefully this time next year, I can write about being in maintenance mode for once.

Baggage that I'd actually want...
I need a cleaning break here. The living room's shaping up. Getting closer, but not quite there yet.
As I look towards the selling phase of this liquidation, I've been thinking about transmutation--taking one thing and transforming it into another. As I take the artifacts of my extended adolescence and start to sell them off, I've been thinking about using some of that money to update my look a bit. I know that I have self esteem issues at times, and that I tend to slob out when my self esteem is low--it's a safe place, to hide out in a place where people's expectations of me are low. All of my school bags are worn and tattered. I've been thinking about some new baggage to go with the new look--again, something stylish and a bit elegant (at least as elegant as one can get in the grad school department), so I did some looking on Overstock.com and found one bag for professor mode (Montana Brown) and a bag for grad student mode (Brown).
Any thoughts?
